Group Classes or Private Lessons?
What is the difference and which do I need?
Group classes offer a constructive environment to work on your training goals. Group classes are ideal for dogs who need to focus on socialization and obedience. A class environment is also a good fit for people wanting to get into specific sports or competitions with their dog.
Pro:
- Cost effective - group classes are less costly due to having less one on one trainer help
- Community - group classes offer a safe place to learn and encourage others
- Controlled environment - group classes offer a structured learning environment and controlled exposure to other dogs
Con:
- Scheduling conflicts - group classes are specific days and times which can conflict with work or other plans
- Lack of personalized training - group classes do not have the opportunity for as many personalized training tips for your dog
Private lessons offer personalized training to accelerate results. Working side by side with a trainer is ideal for more complex training goals. This could include anxiety, service dogs, therapy dogs, and larger behavioral problems.
Pro:
- Flexible scheduling - private lessons allow you to schedule whenever you want
- Accelerated results - private lessons offer specialized training plans so you can achieve your goals faster
- More support - private lessons are often paired with call/text support to ensure everything goes smoothly
Con:
- Cost - private lessons cost more as you are working with a trainer one on one
- Trainer - private lessons are amazing, but finding the right trainer for you can be hard
